Has anybody any comments about what to look for etc; head gasket, gear box & so on.

especially the bit about hg etc. That car is outside Toyota's extended goodwill warranty for the issue as it's too old now & a replacement engine would be more than the car is worth should it develop/have the issue.

Its such a shame to have this problem hanging over what is a really great car otherwise, I love mine anyway :-))

it's probably only 1 in 10 or 20 - but you don't know which 1 ...

Personally i wouldn't buy it, I'd spend all my time driving it with one eye on the temp guage. I'm sure there are plenty good ones about, but there are lots and lots of reports about bad ones. Not just Avensis but anything that has that engine, including Lexus.

Do you not already have a avensis T25 with a 2.0 d4d engine.

Rear brake caliper @ 130k

Air con compressor @135k

158k still driving like new, nearly new!"

I have yet to see the T27 with the headgasket issue, I personally would go for the newer shape.
