As some of you know, i have a 1.3GL (1991). On Sunday night it got broken into outside my house. Before busting all the locks, which didn't open the doors, they tried putting the screwdriver under the lock, bending all the paintwork and the rods inside the door, this still didnt work so they then smashed the window, setting the alarm off, they only got away with the Sub and a toolbox. :crybaby:

The door is all messed up and needs replacing along with the passenger side lock, its grey. i have tried all of my local scrapyards and applied online to loadsa breakers yards but no-one wants to reply, why are they like gold dust??

If anyone has any information on where i could get the door and lock, please let me know, thanks very much.

Chris, the very sad Rolla owner!!

Sorry to hear that mate, personally I don't like thieving scum that much. The next time I see anybody trying to break into a car - I swear they will end up in hospital

Some little nobs broke into my last car - Astra mk2 (while I was in Oxford) - but we all know that the locks on astras are ******* anyway and are just held in place by a paperclip!

Police should spend more time on catching car criminals and putting little ****s behind bars where they belong!

where in the country are you, can i repair the door for you ?

Posted

Thanks very much guys, i really appreciate your care, yer i would definately put them in hospital if i caught anyone breaking in to a car.

I am in the South East, in Kent, i dont think the door can be repaired because too much of the metal has been bent around the lock, i'll take a pic of it tonight and put it on here so you can see if it can be fixed, i would hate to scrap a door that could be fixed, just in case, thanks Unity Jon.

I eventually got a reply from a breakers yard in Birmingham about the door, they quoted me £59.75 for the whole door and the passenger lock, delivery and VAT, it says its Grey in the description and is planning on arriving today or tuesday. We will have to see what it looks like when it arrives, ill let you know.

Obviously didn't claim on the insurance because im TPFT so they wouldn't done anything, just put another Thieft statistic on my Post Code, which i wouldnt want.

Thanks again, i'll post on here again this afternoon with the pics. Chris

no problem, i'm only over the bridge in Essex.

The metal will be stretched where they have attacked the lock but the lock itself sits in big hole so usually you can massage the stretched metal and push the creases into the 'hole' and trim it straight if need be.

Here you go Unity Jon, as you could probably tell, some of the rods are bend inside, dunno if you could fix them, what do you think??

That's what they did?

:censor: in' idiots!

BTW, what are those pedals

Posted

Yup, made a lovely job it; :censor: If they had just smashed the window in the first place it would have solved a lot of problems

Pedals i only fitted yesterday so havent driven with them yet!! Chris

i reckon thats an easy repair job mate, the rods can be bent straight by hand after the handle is sat back in the straight door.

the crease in the door can be tapped out from behind (remove the door card) till almost flat and a neat skim of filler will set it right., if your really patient you may get away with tapping the whole lot out without wrecking the paint too

Those painless dent removal people will be quick but they use some unorthodox methods, would be fairly cheap and they come to you too make sure you inspect the work thoroughly inside and out before they leave, other than that its good ol' panel beating wiht a dolly and hammer !

thanks very much mate, will bare that in mind and repair that.

the door arrived but it was white and didnt have the locks with it, after a lot of argument with them down the phone, we have cancelled the credit card order and am getting a relative to deliver the door back to Birmingham.

found a local breakers yard that have just had my car in, grey, everything but it is an automatic, so eventually i am getting somewhere. Little dents that i am going to knock out and i should be back on the road again Friday, cant wait I missed her!! £60 for the whole door, bargain

thanks again guys, Chris

Sorry to hear about that dude. I happen to have a mate who's gran has a written off rolla gti if your interested. email me richardplaine@blueyonder.co.uk let me know what you need and i'll see what condition its in.

:ffs: All these thieving knob heads deserve a severe botty bashing. You'd think if you were going to be a thief, youd at least learn how to break into a car efficiently FIRST TRY! How dull can U be?!?!? :censor:

Hope U get it sorted m8. This happened to me and I managed to push most of the dents out and use some filler to make it almost perfect again. Should hopefully straighten the rods with some pliers.

Could be an ideal oppertunity to delock/dehandle the car tho!?! My glass is always 1/2 full! :!Removed!:

No Judge, No Jury, Straight Execution. That would sort a lot of problems.

thanks again guys, yer totally agree with the execution, may i have the honors??

anyway, old post. since have it sorted. a local scrapyard had a grey one in. hadnt been looked after the same as mine, not polished etc. so the grey isnt as light. got a couple of dents (little) but dont want to knock them out because i dont want to crack the paint.

well a not so grey door is better than a white one. thanks mefirst, i have emailed you. cheers again, Chris
