Hello All!!

I recently purchased a new Tacoma and I am a bit worried that I will break it in the wrong way or the "bad way". I have never had a new vehicle before, so I am looking for some advise for ways to break in the new truck. I have a boat that I would like to pull in about a week and I am picking up the truck on saturday. Any comments...suggestions....THANKS!!

for the longest lasting motor:

you need HIGH cylinder pressure to seal the piston rings properly

do NOT

cruise at low throttle on the freeway or elsewhere for distances

keep it revved at high revs for distances

DO

use full throttle accelerating up to high speed

use closed throttle letting it come back down from high revs

you will get:

cleaner combustion chamber and motor

less ring blow by

less oil use

longer lasting motor

it may be counter intuitive

but it's been proven

motor's not broken in for first 500 miles...

I would agree with Toynado comments and include a few oil/filter changes and an engine flush with a lighter than normal oil in the 1st few thousand klms.

The running in causes microscopic metal particles to break off and if you let them linger they settle in the engine recesses .

You might want to have the head and crankshaft bolts retorqued to make sure eveything is up to specs after it has loosened up a little.

After a few months, the hose clamps on the coolant system hoses need to be checked as they will loosen to the point of being fingertight as the rubber is crushed down.

Forgetting to do this is a big cause of new engine failure when they burst at high speed.

Dkaho dont they give you all this information when you buy a new car?
