For a few weeks now my d4d tapir it 04 has been suffering with loss of throttle input.

I'll be driving along at a steady rate and suddenly throttle losing effect, if I press all the way to floor it will respond, about 90% down I get some response?I've discovered if I flick off the ign and back on when it occurs it will rest issue and I'll have full throttle range again ???

Hey , just wondering did you get to the bottom of this , im having the same problem i think , when it happens if i change gear , leaving the accelerator alone for a couple of seconds , this seems to get the power back , might not happen everyday , some days are worse than others cant pin point it at all , nothing showing up on ecu , no strange idiling or strange sounds otherwise running perfect .

This happened to me a few years ago. Its a common issue with a lot of cars with EGR valves. They get clogged with deposits and stick causing a sudden drop in power. Switching off and on fixes it in the short term but it will gradually worsten over time.

I've heard stories of turbos being replaced following this type of problem!

A local garage cleaned my EGR valve for £50 and its been as good as gold since. Have the engine terra cleaned also, as this will stop the problem before it starts.

Hope this helps

Mine does it all the time, though the EGR valve is spotless...when I pull up switch off the engine and restart again the throttle will not respond unless nearly on the floor....Toyota have no clue why and say it is a feature of the car, along with the many other features the car has no doubt...still love my car though....would love to get it sorted if anyone knows how.

Have you also cleaned the manifold as well as the EGR .... just a thought ;) .

  • 11 months later...

Iv got a 2004 2.0 d4d t spirit and Iv noticed my throttle response isnt as good as it used to be. Hot or cold, the throttle isnt has responsive as it was. Iv got to floor it to get the revs moving and even then they dnt go up as quickly as they used to.

No lights on dash.

EGR and manifold was cleaned two days ago. Still got sooty hands but the car is still sluggish.

Does it need its throttle body cleaning out? If it does could someone point out to me where it is on my car and how to do it please?

Thank you.

Is the throttle body anywhere near the EGR? And how do I go about cleaning it?

Thanks in advance.
