Automatic Gearbox Problem

Hello everybody! This is my first post here!

My Yaris : 2003, 1.3 VVti equiped with Aisin U440E auto-gearbox, 100000 miles on the clock.

I've always heard that Toyota's automatic boxes are very solid, but suspect that it is not my issue. Well, when accelerating on I gear there is an odd noise audible, something like "whistle" or that sound emited by poorly adjusted differ, on II and higher gears it disappears. Overall gearbox condition, in my opinion, is good, works quite well, is not jerky, fluid looks still fresh, was changed 18 months/ 8000 miles ego.

If somebody met similar problem, let me know what scenario is waiting ?

I have to ask, are you sure that this noise is new?

Only because the 4-speed auto gearboxes I have had (including the swift I have at the moment - only 23k) make a whirring sound sometimes in lower gears when pushed a bit.

I guess that there is no harm in having it looked at, but a rebuild of an auto 'box is always expensive, so don't be tempted to throw tons of money at it when that money could be better spent on a new/newer car that is also cheaper to run.

What fluid was used when it was replaced as the Yaris you have used Type-IV ATF fluid not Dextron lll which is not compatible and causes long term damage to the autobox

My Yaris was examined yesterday by chief engineer at our local "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS Service & Repair" and his verdict is: ...don't worry too much, this IS planetary gear wear (sunny weel) but gearbox will serve you pretty well for next 2-3 years...
