Hello, - I'm new to the forum

I'm looking to buy a Yaris diesel - this will not be new it will be used but would like some help if possible.

I have noticed there is 16v and 8v which are best ? the old ones seem to be 16v and the newer ones 8v should I pay out that extra bit for the 8v ?

Does anyone has have general advise when buying one ?

I just need all the help I can get, is there anything I need to look for ?

I heard something about a recall ?

Sorry about the general questions.

Thank you for any help which can be provided.

Sandra

All 1.4 d4d engines are 8v there was no 16v. Your budget covers a fair range of Yaris from MK1 upto later MK2.5 .

Mk1 2000 >2003 and MK1.5 facelift 2003>2005 the engine was available as a 75bhp 5 speed in all trim levels except T-sport

Mk2 2005>2009 the engine had 90bhp and 5 speed again in all trims , the MK2.5 facelift had 90bhp but more torque and a 6 speed gearbox, late 2010 models also gained a diesel particulate filter.

As always go for the youngest, lowest mileage, best presented car you can afford.

Yes the Yaris has been recalled, once you have found the car you want contact your local Toyota dealer who will if there is a recall carry it out free of charge.

Given the quoted budget and the issues many people have with the DPFs I'd suggest perhaps not getting something late 2010 or later.

June 2010 onwards would benefit from the 5year/100k warranty though so no real fear of issues that have so far proved to be very few and far between on Yaris.
