Debadge Your Verso?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi folks!

I'm new here, having just joined the forum following recent ownership of a 2013 Verso.

I'm thinking of debadging the tailgate - not the circular Badge but the lettering either side. I believe the technique involves dental floss and some adhesive remover.

Has anyone tried this with their Verso? Happy with the look? Anyone know if there are holes under the badges?

Thanks for any advice!

Hello Numb - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Some members on the Auris club have removed badges - so you could do a search of that forum for tips.

Thanks Mike. Ok, so I've now done a search and found a thread about debadging the aygo and unfortunately there were holes under the badges:

I'm hoping someone will have debadged a verso and can tell me if there are holes underneath. A picture of a debadged tailgate would be very handy too! :)

Hi -

Yes, I have removed the Toyota and Corolla badges from the boot lid. Only left the Toyota symbol and the Verso badges.

I carefully removed them using a Stanley knife - slowly cutting the tape between the badges to the lid. Careful not to touch the paintwork with the blade. Once the 'seal' is broken then you can slowly lift and pull the Badge of.

I then cleaned the remaining sticky stuff of the paintwork using a cloth and a bit of dishwashing liquid - anything non abrasive should work.

I don't like multiple badges stuck to a car. Having only the Toyota emblem in the center and Verso at the bottom right of the boot, makes it look less cluttered. At least, I like it that way.

Regards

Erwin

Many thanks for your reply.

Good to hear that you pleased with the result too.

The 2013 Verso has a "Toyota" Badge on the left and "Verso" on the right, with the emblem is in middle so my plan is to initially remove the "Toyota" Badge on the left and see how that looks - basically identical to what you have. Might also remove the Verso Badge after that, not sure yet.

The glue is supposed to be easier to remove when warmed, so waiting for the better weather before I start and I'm planning to use "Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover" to clean it off. :)

I just cut through the gooey stuff with a bit of twine then used methylated spirit to soften it enough to lift the stuff off. After peeling it off, I used Meguiars polish to clean up the mess then gave it all a coat of wax.

There were no studs on my 2013 Verso badges but there appeared to be outlines on the paint around the positions of all the letters. Took a lot of elbow grease to polish them out. Looks nice though!

Thanks for the details - good to hear there were no holes and the result is pleasing.

So did you remove all the lettering from the boot lid or just the toyota lettering?

I removed the TOYOTA and VERSO name badges, I left the round Totoya Badge in the centre - that's useful for leaning on to close the boot lid :) And I suspect the centre Badge probably has pins...don't know for sure, but they usually do.

Oh, if you don't fancy messing about with methylated spirits (personally, I like the smell of the stuff after having one of those little meth heated steam engines as a child!), I found that WD40 is good for getting the gooey stuff off as well.

I would provide a photo but the car's tucked up in the garage, it's too close to the back wall. Next time it's out I'll see about taking one, if it's light enough.

Finally I got around to debadging the boot lid - infact I was able to pull the badges off 1 or 2 letters at a time and pluck most of the sticky foam residue off with just using fingers. I need to clean up the dirt around the letters and remove the last of the sticky foam with WD40.

I had the idea of leaving the "RS" part of the VERSO Badge but eventually decided against it! :blushing:

The result looks clean and pleasing to me. :)

Sounds like a good result :)

I've never liked all those badges on a car. I know what I'm driving, I don't need a reminder and if the manufacturer wants me to advertise for them they should pay me...

I agree with you. :)

Have you removed the 5 year warranty sticker from the rear window? I'm thinking of removing mine although part of me wonders if that will void the warranty..

Yes, I removed the stickers. You have to be careful there. Those are on the inside and have been stuck over the demister elements so you can't scrape them off and have the be careful even peeling them off. Take it easy and peel slowly, keeping an eye on the elements and they should come off without nay trouble. They do sometime tear, leaving scraps stuck on the glass, don't be tempted to scrape though, those elements are easy to damage.
