I'm gonna purchase some new 18 inch alloys for my Celica, just after any advice on things that are negatives of doing this? I don't want the ride to be too hard is this unavoidable? Plenty of options will they detract from the performance in anyway? Cheers

Depends partly on what profile tyres you use - generally the lower the profile the harder the ride.

18's have a marked effect on the acceleration (due to the cars lack of torque) and handling on a Gen 7. Honestly, it's not a good idea unless you pay a small fortune for light weight rims.

However, if you're determined, the correct size tyre is 225/35/18 for 8J rims, and you'll also find this size quite expensive..

It's really quite surprising how much torque you lose just
going up 1" in rim size. I won't do it again, that was an expensive
mistake as the difference in price of the rims and tires that suited the total
radius was a fair amount more.

Yes, big wheels do look very cool, but not at that kind of expense and loss of performance.

Thanks guys for the advice I didn't realise u would lose so much torque but after lots of consideration and debating I have ordered some! If I'm honest I don't drive the car aggressively and love it more for its looks than anything. The car will still be quick in any case just love how they look especially with big wheels. I did take on board peoples advice and appreciate it. Will post some picks when they cone next week, cheers guys
