:help: Hi All :crybaby:

Just got my celica (96 GT) back last week after having it lowered 40mm, looks excellent(will post pics later). Anyway on my way home i hear this terrible knocking noise from the 2 back struts, at the top. Booked it back into the garage next day. They could not for the life of them find what is making this noise, everything is tightened up, bump stops were shortened, everything put back the way it came off (so they say). Also it has already had the roll bar bushes replaced a few months ago.

It has been back to the garage 4 times now and still no solution. I think it is something to do with were the spacer is positioned when the struts are put back in, but they say it isnt.

PLEASE could someone who has had this problem or knows of a way to solve it let me know, cos i am not sleeping now thinking of all things it could be..

hi dave i saw somewhere you can get a rubber spaceing ring that sits on the first two coils from the top.to space them out and stop bottoming. just a thought

Now they sound a good idea, if that is the noise. I have had the springs and shocks off myself and cant see anything that would make this noise. I think it may be the link arms attached to the anti roll bar, as the garage said they had a hard time getting them off.

My thoughts are that they have Knackered them up and are saying nothing.

you can take these link arms off to see if noise goes away just dont be going crazy around corners and stuff . it wont harm the car and a good way of ellimination.part and parcel of getting this job done is those link arms i was told before hand at my local garage if they break i'd have to foot the bill and at £ 90 a go they arnt cheap.

The garage actualy said that they had to really force them off, which makes me think they have damaged them. I will get them off over the weekend and report back on my results, fingers crossed.

Thanks

Did the garage cut the rubber bump stops down? when fitting TTE lowering springs on all toyotas you have to cut one ring off the bottom or else they bottom out when going over bumps.

Common Celica probem. Have you had the centre 'D' cup bushes replaced, 9 times out of ten it's these.

9 times out of 10 the anti roll bar is worn where bushes sit , so changing them sometimes dont make any difference.as with mine

Hi

I have solved it today, (In the sun getting a tan of course).

The way the springs coil at the bottom, the top coil was touching, ever so slightly the coil underneath it. I have had a piece of thick rubber hose put half way around the coil, AND THE NOISE HAS STOPPED!!!!!! thank god or thank B&Q for the hose.

I am so glad this has been resolved, and i have some complaints against toyota for not spotting this problem after £250 of labour and 4 visits, will be asking for FULL refund.

Thanks for everyones replys, very helpfull

Dave
