I had the TNS410 screen unit stolen from my 2011 T-spirit (forgot to lock it ! My fault.) Contacted Tom Tom to ask for quotation for new screen unit...they told me I had to contact my local Toyota dealer. Spoke to their spares dept. who quoted 1000/- POUNDS !!!!!!!!! The guy was extremely apologetic about the price and mentioned that in a recent insurance claim for the same unit the insurers had refused to pay that for a nav unit !!!!!!!

I now have a superb stand alone Garmin and a big hole in the dashboard.

Some insurance policies put a limit on how much they will pay out for in the event of a claim for audio equipment, regardless of whether it was standard fit.

The insurance company we're with (LV) provide unlimited cover if the equipment was fitted by the manufacturer and was part of the standard specification of the car when first registered.

The level of cover a policy provides is where comparison sites and the like, which concentrate on the cheapest price, fall down.

Mine was not an insurance claim - my point is that 1000/- for the screen of a nav unit fitted to a Toyota Yaris is actually quite a large percentage of the new car purchase price....I think someone at Toyota did not think this through and if I had known the cost of the navigator I would not have purchased it in the first place from Toyota.

Sorry to hear this....

Totally agree....rip off by Toyota. It might be that they will only supply the head unit and display as one purchase??

Found this on eBay.

Unless another member pulls me up on it, this should work for you. I am 99% sure these will fit as they are simply supplied re branded to toyota anyway.

My observation re insurance companies is still valid.

Try sending Parts King a personal message giving details of your car and what part(s) you're looking for - for Parts Kings, see the Community page, Sponsors Corner, and Lindop Toyota.

Unfortunately that ludicrous price makes them very attractive items for the less honest gits in the community - fantastic resale value, now that radios are ten-a-penny.

In similar vein a friend of mine had a Honda with built in satnav that was CD based. To upgrade the maps needed a new CD at about £200. Makes TomTom look cheap at about £40. (I don't need satnav often these days so I just use my Android phone with Google maps. Not quite as easy as a standalone unit, but at no extra costs and free updates :D )

Brian,

Thanks for the e-bay information - the screen unit looks absolutely genuine and new.......150/- pounds from the site vs. 1000/- from Toyota............Hmmmmm ! I will leave readers to draw their own conclusions !!!!

  • 8 months later...

Hi Nigel / Brian & other forum members,

I was just wondering if any of you have bought the tomtom unit from eBay that Nigel mentioned...

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3381a75911

I am looking to buy one as I lost my exiting detachable tomtom screen for my 2011 Yaris. Before buying this unit from eBay, it would be good to know first if it actually works and does its job. My old unit also controlled the radio, presume this eBay one does too.

Any help/suggestions/comments really appreciated. Bit unhappy that as Nigel mentions, the unit costs over £1000 if bought from the dealer.

Thanks.

Baz
