Help I Need A Power Steering Pump

Hi all,

Just collected my car from the Mechanic and he THINKS, but he"s not sure that my steering problem is connected to a duff pump, but he also told me it might be the Steering Rack.

So, although I can"t really afford to do it this way I am going to get him to fit a New/Reconditioned Steering Pump. So My Question is.......Where do I buy a New or Reconditioned Steering Pump for my 1998 RAV-4 2litre petrol manual? and what Part Numbers do I need to Look for?

If it turns out not to be the Pump then I"ll probably boil my head in oil.

One other thing, when I asked him how much it would cost he told me he would probably have to drop the engine. Is this correct?

Please any help what really be appreciated.

This isn't the way to solve problems - it will cost you more in time effort and money. Find someone with more expertise. Isn't there a power steering specialist in your area? A local motor factor will do service exchange on racks and pumps. However I used Western Power Steering in Bristol for many years to recondition customers units or do service exchange by mail order - cost competitive and rapid turnaround.

Thanks for that, I can ill afford to waste money but the problem seems to be getting worse.

I have contacted Western Power Steering and am awaiting their reply, but for the life of me I can"t seem to find any Power Steering Specialists in this area between Southampton and Bournemouth.

Will keep you posted on the outcome.

Just a quick note to keep you informed.

Yesterday I contacted Western Power Steering in Bristol and today I recieved an email from Gary Bunwin advising me that in his opinion my Power Steering Problem is due to a worn Belt and he further suggested that I get it changed ASAP which I will be doing on Tuesday.

Will let you know what the outcome is.
