Black Door Protector Strips

Hello everyone,

Hopefully it will be relatively soon when I pick up my Trend Hybrid. When I ordered it, I selected the protection pack as this was the only way to get front and rear parking sensors, but didn't want the black plastic door protectors, as I think they look really ugly. I was told that wouldn't be a problem, as they were fitted at the dealer, or at least somewhere in the UK. Now I'm getting a bit worried that they might be fitted at the factory come what may, and I don't want bits of plastic being ripped off my car before I even get it!

Anyone know the deal?

Thanks,

David

The protection packs are dealer fit. I would be inclined to remind them that you don't want the door protection mouldings fitted.

Awesome - thank you. I always think of parking sensors being a big deal, but I guess that the wiring is there, and then it's just a few pre-marked holes in the bumpers and a switch in the centre console.

Don't know about having front and rear sensors - usually with rear sensors the disabling switch is fitted somewhere in the boot (quite often behind the boot lining by the rear light access cover).

If my car is the same as the T-spirit demo I drove, there was a button to disable the front sensors down by the upholders between the seats, in the same panel as the eco button.

The fitting of the protection pack is either done by your dealer or it is ordered as what Toyota call a Port of entry fitment where the kit is fitted in the UK before the car is shipped to the dealer, so your car may arrive at the dealership with side mouldings already fitted. Removing them however is easy as they are fixed by adhesive and only need warming with a hair dryer or similar to be peeled off.

Quite often the price of an accessory pack is such that it is not possible to match the price when fitted at dealer level as Toyota have more if a margin on parts prices than the dealers do, as Toyota obviously make a profit when selling a part to a dealer. The model Year 14 Yaris protection pack is one of these cases the parts alone at dealer prices nearly total the cost of the pack when fitted at Port of Entry.

As for the parking sensors there is no pre wiring on a Yaris only locator markings inside the bumper, the rears are farly simple taking an hour to fit, the fronts are a nightmare taking 3.5 hours to fit as the wiring has to run around the engine bay through the bulkhead and into the centre console.

Thank you - that's why I love this forum, and I don't know if you own/work/live in a dealership, but there's definitely a lot of insider knowledge on this forum!

Even more importantly, you have put my mind at rest that whatever state the car arrives at the dealer in, I won't turn up on delivery day to find gaping fitting holes in all four doors. Crazy idea I know, but car companies do make very good cars with really stupid design decisions. Case in point: The VW Passat I owned, where they fitted loads of intelligent things, but then inserted a black oil dipstick.

Thanks again,

David

Hello Orangezorki,

. I may be wrong, but I think you will find that the protection pack doesnt come with the door mouldings This is from the Toyota website:

  • The protection pack has been designed to keep your Yaris Hybrid looking as good as new. Includes:
  • Front and Rear parking sensors
  • Front and Rear Mud flaps
  • Rear bumper protection plate
  • Boot liner
  • Carpet mats

Also, I notice that door mouldings do not appear to be available in the accessories except as lower chrome finishers. I notice that bumper corner protectors are still offered. Very strange. Perhaps a styling and marketing move for 2014?

Can anyone tell if I have this wrong? I guess it must be possible to order the plastic mouldings as a part if required?? Anyway, what I mean is, that in your case you might not have to worry about the problem.

Thanks for spotting that - Hopefully another reason to think that I'll get the combo I want. But I will report back when I get the car in the next week or two...

The brochure on the website quotes:

"Protection pack. Designed to keep your Yaris looking as good as new, the fully tailored boot liner and velour carpet mats will save your car's carpets from everyday wear and tear. In addition, front and rear parking sensors will help you park safely in even the smallest spaces. The custom shaped front and rear mud flaps will protect against stone chips and the side mouldings will give protection for doors against accidental bumps."

But, having said that, when I bought both of my Auris (2009 and 2012), the side mouldings and corner protectors were separate to the protection pack.
