New Auris Real Mpg V Computer Mpg

Had a pleasant and unexpected result yesterday. After 2 months/1000 miles with my new (2014) Auris 1.6 Petrol CVT, computer MPG states around 38mpg as opposed to real "brim to brim" of 34mpg (around 10% less as expected).

Anyway, completed it's first long run over the weekend of 280 miles, mainly motorway and A-Roads (no Urban), average speed around 60 mph. Computer stated 42.7 mpg, so I was surprised when I filled up and done the real MPG calculation, that it was almost the same at 43mpg .

Not sure why that should be - perhaps the longer the continuous/unbroken journey, the more accurate the dash MPG is.

Anyway, quite a happy bunny. :fireman:

Thats a good result and easily comparable to:

especially bearing in mind that winter fuel consumption is usually less than during the summer. A steady motorway run at around the 70 mark will always be better than urban or short runs.

i am currently debating whether to change to the Auris from my Avensis so as a matter of interest why did you choose the 1.6 CVT over the Hybrid?

Several reasons.

1) Do not do the mileage to warrant the Hybrid (5k pa on average).

2) Extra cost of Hybrid versus petrol saving estimated over 3 years of ownership, did not make much of a saving.

3) Did not like the plasticky looking gear-stick in the hyrid (blue stubby thing) - silly reason I know but that's just me.

4) Members on here reporting Battery drain troubles with the Hybrid.

Thanks for that Andy, food for thought.
