Should I Buy This 1981 Starlet?

Hi All,

Let me start by saying that I used to have a 1984 Toyota Starlet, stock. I live in the States. SInce then I've been driving a Honda, and missing my Starlet the entire time. I recently found a guy selling his bone stock 1981 Toyota Starlet, and it only has 87,000 miles on it. It's in good-very condition. The seats probably need to be replaced, but besides that, it looks fantastic. No rust, and everything under the hood seems to be in good operating condition. He's asking $3400 for it.

My questions are:

Assuming I want this car for a daily driver, is that a fair price?

and Overall is buying this car a good decision?

I know that Starlets run forever, but I do not know a ton about repairing my own car, and I've never driven one with a carburetor before.

Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It is not easy for us here on the Toyota Owners Club UK website to accurately judge if the car you are looking at is good value.

As a previous owner of a Starlet and being in the same country as the seller, you would probably be the best person to make that judgement

If the general condition meets your expectations then good luck with the purchase :)

It's wildly over priced if you ask me! You could could have bought the car new for that price, but who I am to say it is value for money or not, it depends how badly you need to own one. I used to rally one that had a 1.6 Celica GT engine in it, now that was pretty hot!

Kingo
