Headlight Warning Buzzer Failed

It's a 2006/7 XT4 2.2D. A few months ago the warning buzzer that lets you know if you've left the headlights on stopped working. My wife mainly drives this car, and it's been an education discovering how useful that buzzer is. Anybody else experienced this with the Rav? Is there a common fix... unit? sensor? fuse?

Cheers all, in advance, for any ideas.

Check the plunger switch for the drivers door, oval shaped with black rubber cover (easily seen with drivers door open) See if it is broken and check it's operation.

I am not familiar with that model but is that switch one that also causes the interior light to, err, light

If so that would show it was working and if it was also part of the circuit to switch the buzzer on that would eliminate it.?

I would assume that power is fed to the buzzer when the side lights are switched on but until that circuit was completed by opening the door it would not be able to sound.

So that would be lights on--power to buzzer but not to earth--door opened/switch closed, allowing the buzzer to earth and sound.

Is the interior light dim at all as this could point to dirty contacts in the switch that would only be able to pass enough current through for the light but not enough for the buzzer.?

This of course only backs Raistlin's suggestion but may explain a little what to look for.

Thanks, Raistlin and crofter...

I've had a fiddle with that plunger. Seems to be working fine, and - yes - I'm able to trigger the interior lights by pressing and releasing it. I'm wondering whether the buzzer itself is faulty. Don't suppose anybody knows where it is? Whether it's accessible?

Cheers,

Hi Linton,again this is speculation.

It is possible that the "lights on" buzzer is the same unit that sounds if you open the door with the key still in the ignition. Does this work . ?

It would still be worth removing the door switch to check the connections as a first step, but remember there are live wires there so maybe best if you disconnect the earth wire (black) from the Battery before you begin

Hi Del... yeah, I'm sure it's the same buzzer, because that's stopped happening too. I'll have a look at the door switch, but I suspect it's okay, since it's operating the lights.

Wish I knew where that buzzer is. Hard to find now silent!

Cheers again.

Right mate, just been and looked on my model and in the facia, left and down from the steering column there is a small grill cut in the plastic and that seems to be where it is.

???.
