Help Choosing Alloy Wheels

Hi,

I have an Avensis 2.0 D4D 2006 (pre-restyle) that didn't came with alloy wheels.

I really don't like how it looks and was thinking of getting 16inch wheels (not going for 17 as tire prices are double)

After searching for original used wheels they are about the same price of buying non original new ones.

The size I'm looking for is 6.5x16 (same as original) but seems that the most common size is 7x16.

As I want to keep my fuel consumptions low I want to keep using 205/55 tires

I think that I can still use 205/55 on a 7x16 rim but it will leave the rim too exposed to sidewalks right?

After searching a bit saw this two options for 6.5x16

http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/car-wheels/momo/winpro/6.5x16-5x100-et38-72.3-1.html

http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/car-wheels/dezent/re/6.5x16-5x100-et38-60.1-1.html

What brand is better? Momo is a more known brand but entry level rims are good? never heard of dezent before so don't really know.

Suggestions accepted :)

Regards,

Nuno Gato

Dezent are well known & part of a large group of alloy manufacturers that includes AEZ, Dotz & Enzo (which is their budget brand).

205/55 will fit on a 7J rim.

Lots of modern premium tyres have kerb protection.

Thanks for the answers

Maybe i'm going for some 7x16 as I remember seeing some allow wheels for half the price of the ones that I posted.

Then to protect them what do you think about this http://www.alloygator.co.uk/ ?

Regards

Nuno

Spend your money on a tyre with kerb protection imo.

Iirc the reviews for that type of product weren't very good & they are a potential danger to other vehicles, pedestrians etc. if they come off.

GoodYear Eagle F1's are available with rim protection built in - I use them in 17" size. Cost me £107 each for 225/45/17 so they should be a bit cheaper in 16" :)
