Corolla T-Sport Common Fault

Hi All,

currently on my second Toyota corolla T-sport and couldn't speak more highly of them

HOWEVER

both of my rollas have made a loud crunch noise upon pull off when the engine has been turned off ie cold start & petrol stations ect.

the noise appears to come from the front and i would imagine a wheel / CV as it happens even when gearbox is not engaged and i roll down a hill to pull off.

has anyone had a similar issue diagnosed or know what it is?

it is a one off noise which happens every time i pull off regardless of speed happens in like the first 2 - 3 meters.

any advise greatly appreciated!

Mike.

Hi Gemma,

Does the car have to be stood for a long time before the noise happens or

can it happen if you just stop, turn engine off and then start it again and then move?

Will it do the noise if you stop at say traffic lights and pull away again?

Hi Leeroy,

Thanks so much for coming back to me. It wont happen as long as the engine is still running only happens once.

i have never tryed turning off and on strait away but as little as 5 - 10 mins of the engine being off hand break engaged and it will happen again...

same with both the TS corollas i have owned

is this something you are familiar with?

Regards Gemma x

Hi again,

Only thing that springs to mind at the moment is if the handbrake shoes are sticking to the drums or the pads are sticking into their holders when the car is cooling down. Corollas front brake pads do sometimes start to stick into their clips (holders). This would make a slight bang as the pads or shoes get released back off as you pull away. Although it does sounds loud in the car as the sounds reverberates (big word, hahaha).

If it sounds like it is under the bonnet though gimmie a shout and ill continue to have a think.
