Well, Less Than 1000 Miles Into Ownership And Already Have Had Problem

I purchased my approved used Toyota from a dealership last month. I have done less than 1000 miles in the car so far.

Unfortunately I've had two problems.

The first being that the air conditioning was not topped up even though i was told by the salesman that it would be before the car is delivered to me.

Secondly the car started making a horrendous squealing noise whilst driving. I have checked online and found that this seems to be a common fault with the Auris and Toyota have been repairing this under warranty.

Anyway, I thought nothing of it as i've got a 12 month warranty with the car i'll take it to my local Toyota and all will be fixed (note - different dealership/different town). After all any reasonable person would expect an approved car to last more than 1000 miles and a month before starting to give problems and the aircon issue can easily be overlooked when selling a car. Unfortunately my local Toyota Dealer thought different and made it clear they are a franchise and will have to charge me for skimming the brake discs and for an air con regas and to take it up with my supplying dealer.

Anyway, i needed the car to be working and didn't have the time to argue so i was left with no choice other than to pay for it.

The total cost for skimming the discs and an air con regas was £297.

So i have emailed the dealership general manager and asked for a reimbursement.

I'm sure any reasonable person would agree that the aircon should have been regased as stated by the salesman and the skimming of the brake discs less than 1000 miles into ownership is not acceptable.

I'll keep you all updated and see if 'approved' actually means anything or not.

It would have been a good idea to get the supplying dealer to do the work or failing that to get prior acceptance of the costs and agreement for reimbursement

Good luck in your efforts to get your repair money back

Supplying dealer is on the south coast. I'm in Brum :(

When I bought my last Yaris used from a second hand dealer, they didn't cover the air con as a warranty thing as its not 'mechanical' so I had to pay £49 for an air con regas.

That's not the supplying dealers fault ;)

You bought the car on the south coast, your contract is with them. It is unreasonable to expect another garage to cover the cost of what should have been done before it was sold. You should have been in touch with the supplying garage, told them the issues and given them the opportunity to put it right, this might have meant them agreeing the charges with the other garage and paying directly, but they dont have to do that. The supplying garage will not want to pay retail rates for the work YOU authorised to be carried out, you should have sorted this out BEFORE you gave the go ahead for the work to be done, you might not get back all that you paid. I understand you may be frustrated by having these faults, the only saving grace is the selling garage agreed to do the air con work before it went out, they might pay that in full. Good luck
