Rav4 Instrument Cluster

Hi everyone :)

I live in Australia and are considering purchasing a UK cluster for my 2010 RAV4. The reason behind this is the local one is like the US version and does not have a trip computer or fuel consumption details displayed at all. ( Which is very odd for this day and age)

My only real question is can the cluster be changed from Imperial to metric?

Hi Daniel, nice to hear from you.

I would assume that the shape of the cluster is the same otherwise you would not be considering it, but are you saying that pressing the reset knob does not change the total mileage reading to trip 1 and trip 2 mileage reading ?

As for the conversion from miles to kilometers I have seen dial faces that can be changed to do this albeit the other way round that may be a more cost effective way forward.

Hope this helps for you sort this

Changing the cluster is no problem and there are companies that should be able to supply an electronic mph to kph converter (Merlin Products for example). Fitting an over-face won't convert the odometer. Why don't you just get a cluster from Japan which will already be RHD and KPH? The biggest problem is functions such as fuel consumption require feeds from the ECU - the devil is in the detail and you'd need to establish if these feeds already exist or will further work be required.

Hi Del,

The shape is the same, the only real difference between the two is the LCD display. The UK model has a larger LCD that displays more information, MPG etc. My real question is does the Cluster support changing the way the LCD displays information (ie, MPG or LPH). A few years back we had a 2009 Corolla (Auris) and that Cluster allowed you to enter a Setup mode that let you change basically whatever you wanted. Since i have had no access to a UK cluster at this point i don't know if it supports a similar feature.

The cluster from Japan used in their RAV4/Vanguard is exactly the same as the Australian one with one exception, their speedo only displays up to 180 kmph. Which isn't really a problem, but the main reason for swapping at all would be lost on doing so with a Japanese unit.

As far as the ECU is concerned, i've been able to plug one of those HUD devices into it and determine the ECU is reporting instant fuel consumption. So with not other information available i'm 'assuming' the cluster will be able to see that and then save and record averages..... But i think i'm at the point where i might just have to take the risk and see how it all goes.
