Hey,

I have been a long time lurker on this forum and have enjoyed reading over the years, although never had any issues of my own to post about, or enough knowledge to help other people with theirs.

However, my 2005 aygo broke down the other week on the motorway and was diagnosed as having a faulty ignition coil. I've ordered the part and had a look in the engine and although I know from the fault code that it is the coil on cylinder 3 which needs replacing, there is no indication under the bonnet which of the 3 coils/cylinders is number 3, aside from some painted on dots on the top of each coil which I'm not 100% confident I trust.

As a complete amateur at car repairs, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Usually, and conventionally, the cylinders are numbered with "1" being at the free end of the engine, where the alternator, and auxiliary drive belts are, and (for a four cylinder inline engine) "4" at the gearbox/drive end.

However, it needs someone with a bit more Toyota knowledge to confirm that!

Drop a PM to Parts King and he should be able to steer you right

No 1 is the engine crank pulley side, No 3 is the gearbox end

Here u have a Danish site site that tells you how to change your spark plugs, and in this it shows you how to remove your ignition coil. So you stop at the point where you remove and change the ignition coil. All pictures, no need to know Danish!
