I Don't Know How Fast I'm Going

I had this intermittent problem for a week or two now non of the dash illumination works all the switch illumination and the auto box position lights are dark the car is a 1999 2 litre petrol hatchback with the pre vvt engine RHD I have checked the f11 fuse and have checked one bulb with my meter just in case all the bulbs were blown and just because i had one i replaced the light/indicator switch. All to no avail :dontgetit: The central locking has never worked from the fob the drivers door key locks all the doors but the tailgate which doesn't unlock the other doors and all four indicators flash randomly for an hour or two if you have had the bonnet open. I don' really care about the door lock and alarm issues but is all this connected by some random ecu box of tricks" I used to own an Audi A6 YUCK YUCK"

Any ideas guys before i get busted for speeding at night

Change the 'Dome' fuse - number 3 in the engine compartment fuse box. That tends to fail without blowing. With luck, you should get remote central locking back.

Since the fuse 'Tail' for the instrument illumination also works the rear lights and number plate light, I assume they work. If so, then bulbs need changing or there is a bad connection.

Remember to wear gloves when handling the bulbs or they will blow quicker. Not just for halogen bulbs.

In the meantime, you could use a smart phone with a speed app to show your speed at night or stick a mini led light in the display binnacle.

Hi and thanks Konrad C and cmia for the detailed and accurate information dome fuse fixed the alarm issues I have been putting up with for over four years and changing the bulbs in the dash binnacle fixed the illumination the bulbs and fuses had continuity they were a little bit high resistance perhaps changing them may have fixed a bad connection. I have completely changed all the fuses now just for completeness but well done and thanks again very happy :flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers:
