Gents,

I am considering getting some aftermarket wheels for my Aygo to replace my stock 14" alloys. Would anyone hazard a guess as to what my old wheels would be worth? They have 4 as new tyres (stock size). I know they are only worth what someone is willing to pay but an idea would be a start as I haven't a scooby and I can't see any on eBay.

Cheers

Around £30.00 per wheel

I sold my set of 4 Aygo "Go" 14" unmarked alloys and 3k miles on tyres for £125 on eBay.

Cheers guys. My tyres have less than 3k on them too, and if I could get £150 I would be happy. I would probably offer them on here first anyway so if theres any interested parties reading just pop me a PM. I'm in Billericay, Essex.

Not really.

I know to buy these new at retail (OEM alloys and Continental tyres) would cost several times what I got for them, but used alloys/tyres do not fetch that good a price (especially skinny Aygo ones).

The trouble with the 14" stock Aygo alloy/tyre combination (and C1/107) is the narrow width, and not being suitable for any other make. Even if it was compatible with other makes, no-one who wants to enhance the look/ride of their car would choose a 14"/155 profile tyre (that's the reason I upgraded).

So, I put them on eBay (auction) and set a reserve of £100 and hoped to get £150 (having sold many wheels I do know what price they are worth). I knew that the only interested buyers would be existing Aygo/C1/107 owners with stock steel or damaged alloy wheels, and were able to pick up as too expensive to courier.

I was happy with £125, otherwise they would only have cluttered up the shed.

However, and in hindsight, the mistake I made, was selling them at all, as I later decided for the first time on any car, to fit winter tyres. Not wanting to mess about changing the tyres on my new alloys, I purchased a set of new OEM Aygo standard steel rims (at £120 for 4), and kicked myself for selling the alloys in the first place.

Should have kept them and just sold the tyres, and fitted winter tyres to the stock alloys - "ces't la vie!"

Maybe the OP should consider this himself, before making a similar mistake.

Truthseeker - very valid point indeed re the snow tyre option. Not forgetting that aftermarket alloys will do nothing come resale of the car and could very well lower the value. It's madness to sell any set of stock wheels, especially alloys but the two points I can't get away from are 1. I can't finance the alloys I want (£500) without selling them nor do I have I any space to store them.

A great shame, but I really fancy some new wheels and this is the only way I can do it.

Valvematic - no problem, I will get a couple of close-up photos the next time I clean the car. Heres a distance shot for now, the two marks on the 11 and 12 o'clock spokes on the front wheel are scuffs but to be honest I think you will be hard pushed to get an unmarked set of these given the percentage of women drivers who own Aygos!

Yes a good point regarding resale value with stock alloys, and with my experience/age, I should have realised this, and kept them for when time to sell/trade car.

I think that aftermarket alloys are OK on a private sale, but usually a no no when part exchanging with a dealer.

Anyway - too late now.

Good luck with yours.

Valvematic - I never, ever p/x my cars or sell to trade so at least that ones thing I guess! Still, Miss Poppy Forthwright won't be the slightest bit interested in her first car having £500 worth of alloys on it, not to mention the insurance issues for her so it's still a bad move for me but I just really like my cars to be a bit different. Ho hum the joys of modding!

Front tyres are Hankook Kinergy Eco which I had fitted myself just after buying the car. Showing 6mm tread which I don't think is far off what they had new. Cost me £110 fitted and balanced. I have done about 2k miles on them.

Rear tyres are Firestone Multihawk which the seller said he had fitted just before I bought the car - they looked brand new to me. Again, showing 6mm tread.

All are standard fitment - 155/65/14.

In short, anyone who buys these are effectively getting the wheels for free as I wager you would be hard pressed to get 4 very new tyres (fitted) with 6mm of tread for less than £150!

I have just had 4 new Khumo tyres fitted to the wife's Aygo (175/50/15) for £150 - fitted and balanced. The standard 155s would have been just £135.

So yes they are available at around the £150 if you know where to go.

Also, havng a bit of OCD with my cars and their tyres, I have to have all 4 tyres the same. Nothing wrong though with mixing - just the way I am.

Thanks for the pics of the wheels, they have been knocked about a bit mine are in much better condition on a 56 plate.

Thanks. So apart from showing I was robbed for the pair I had fitted, it confirms my suggestion that the buyer of these would effectively be getting a free set of wheels, given that the tyres on them are are virtually new.

Fair enough, I will assume that you are no longer interested in purchasing them.

cheers

Why not save then for the winter ?

Just a thought as it will save your new ones from any damage

Well I am but not at that price as they would require refurbing.

Now I have seen pictures of the damaged alloys, £150 would be pushing it IMO. Mine were completely unmarked and the tyres were the original Continentals as fitted from new. Cost of refurbishment will be around £60 per wheel.

Seling damaged/scuffed alloys is always going to result in a lower price. If a buyer wanted just new tyres, I imagine that they would pay £150 from a dealer and have all 4 the same, and have them fitted/balanced included in the price.

If the OP wants £150, then there is the cost of shipping (if buyer not able to collect).

Best advice is like Raistlin states - keep them and fit winter tyres, or just sell the alloys and tyres separately, that way you may get say £75 for the alloys, and £50 for the tyres. No matter how much tread a tyre has remaining - used is used, and I personally would never ever buy a used tyre.

I take your viewpoint. Personally however if I had an Aygo with steel wheels and 4 tyres with tread like a dolphin I would jump at the chance of getting 4 virtually new tyres (decently branded at that) and 4 stock alloys, all fitted and balanced for £150. The resale value of the car would remain buoyant (if not increase) due to them being OE alloys and although I appreciate that two of them are scuffed I certainly wouldn't be considering them refurb material. I would simply fit them as they are and enjoy, given that they are hardly knackered and many cars have a lot worse.

Kudos to you for getting quoted £135 for 4 new tyres fitted and balanced. I very much doubt that the majority of owners could get anywhere near this.

Yes of course there may be shipping costs but that was never in question.

Given the comments I think I will keep them as suggested.

Sensible decision!
