Roof Load Capacity - 2010 Avensis Estate

Hi,

I've done a bunch of searches and could only find a Roof Load Capacity rating for an Avensis Saloon. This was specified at 90kg.

Can anyone point me to where I'd find or tell me what it is for my 2010 Avensis Estate?

Cheers.

according to the brochure on the current facelift models with a Roofrack it's 100kg Tourer, 75Kg saloon incl rack. Be surprised if that had changed much from the original T27 (found a March 2010 brochure pdf - the same figures).

Hi guys I think i've gone wrong in my chose of Roof Rack.

I wanted approximately 120cm wide racks for the particular load i had in mind, so I went with this Thule system

Foot Pack 753, Fitting Kit 3073, WingBars 961 (118 cm), set of locks and keys.

The Thule literature rated the Bars at 100kg Max, cool - and the Foot Pack is also rated at 100kg Max, OK. The fitting Kit was not described. I thought nothing of it and ordered the kit. The only instructions that came with the complete kit was for the Fitting Kit. It clearly states Max load rated including dead weight of the rack components is 75kg, Giving me a usable load of 70kg, rather than the 95kg I had expected. This is not particularly OK for what i had originally intended. After a 15kg roof box has been fitted I'm down to 55kg.

I have planned to carry certain equipment weighing 46kg along side and in narrow roof box containing family luggage for 2 adults and 3 kids. With only 9kg remaining for family luggage it hardly makes the roof box worth while. The boot was designated for prams and other items.

That's my winge.

My questions are:

Could the 100kg rating stated above by Devon Aygo be out of date. He references a 2008 model. Could my 2010 model actually only be rated at 75kg roof capacity?

Does anyone know of a Roof Rack that can utilise a full 100kg roof capacity on a 2010 Tourer with fxing points?

Am I being to pedantic. My wife says most people just fit roof boxes load them and drive on.

Cheers

Update.

Thule confirmed that due to the fixing kit being only rated to 75kg, their entire bar is only rated to 75kg for my car. I returned the Thule roof bars for a full refund. I went back to my local Toyota Dealer to double check if they did a 120cm wide bars. They don't, but they also said the Toyota accessory roof bars were only 75kg rated. I wasn't convinced given the above posts, so tried a 'not as local' Toyota dealer. This time i found a guy who new his stuff, so i ordered the 100kg Toyota set.

My solution to using the narrower bars is to by a box long enough and wide enough and with enough weight capacity to carry all the items internally. Unfortunately the box is close to twice the price of my original narrow box choice.
