T180 Dpf Emulator

Hi All,

I have had problems with the usual excessive white smoke since having had an aftermarket dpf filter fitted (hindsight is a wonderful thing!)

It was changed at 92000 after the warning lights came on and it went into limp mode, I have had no warning lights come on since the change,

After some research it appears that aftermarket DPF filters can send incorrect signals to the ECU causing excessive regens, this has been also confirmed after extensive testing by a Diesel specialist,

My question is, has anybody on here had the emulator fitted, by which company, and has it been reliable since?

I am having no luck searching either positive or negative stories about these emulators.

Please PM me if you don't want to publicly name,

Thanks

John

I presume you want to remove the dpf?

If so you are going to fail your next MOT. If the car is supposed to have a DPF and you remove it, it will be an instant MOT failure, regardless of a light being off

Hi Kingo,

Thanks for the reply, yes I do want to remove the DPF (or at least the innards) I realise the MOT implications but from what I have researched it is undetectable if you remove the innards?

So has anybody successfully done this on a Avensis T180 (or any t180 come to that)

Thanks

John

Ive not heard of that been done on the T180

This is going to rear it's head for a lot of people who have de-catted and could end up being expensive for a lot of people

Excessive white smoke is a known issue as per Toyota service bulletin EG-0004T-0110-EN which requires updated software being flashed into the cars ECU, also when replacing a DPNR the previously learnt values of the old DPNR must be erased from the cars ECU using Toyota diagnostic equipment, failure to do so leaves the car treating the new filter like an old blocked one , over regening and ultimately destroying the new filter by cooking it.

As for MOT the DPNR/DPF is now inspected any tampering such as removing the innards will be viewed as a failure and unlike other brands the Denso fuel system has yet to be tricked into accepting an emulator as the DPNR on your car is more sophisticated than the standard DPF fitted on other cars

Thank you so much for that information.

At the moment my local independent garage is checking with the non oem manufacturer of the replacement dpf as it is apparently giving out odd readings.

The reflash is it something that they could do or is it a main dealer job?

Cheers

" Giving out odd readings" is a unusual statement in itself as the filter is a fixed mechanical device that does not give out readings .

Readings would come from the thermal sensors pre and post DPNR, from the vacuum sensors pre & post DPNR and from the 5th injector these are all separate parts from the DPNR and unlikely to have been replaced along with the DPNR.

If the ECU was not reset when the new DPNR was fitted ( Toyota dealer only ) the car will be confused by the new filter but old learnt values and not be able to perform normal regenerations. and yes only Toyota can update the ECU software.

Hi All,

Well its back from my independent, and now booked in with Toyota Derby for a ECU check, I will let them know of the history so fingers crossed it wont cost ££

If that doesn't work (and I really hope it does!)

I have still been researching it appears that some people have managed removal on the Lexus 220d (basically same engine??)

http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/71530-diesel-particulate-filter/

I have had 2 companies get back to me saying that they can do it,

Any more thoughts?

John
