Engine Light

Hey

The engine light, EML has come on, on my mom's 1998 Avensis 1.6.

I tried to use a wire as a jumper between terminals 4 and 13 on the OBD socket. Turned the ignition on, the ABS and airbag(SRS?) lights begins to flash, but the EML won't, it's just stay on. So the question is why won't it flash, am i doing something wrong?

Thanks

So long as you have connected the 4th pin on the upper row of the OBD socket and the 5th pin of the lower row, then all should be fine.

The option is that your socket or system is different from the norm!

Later Avensis with vvti engines will only flash the ABS and SRS lights, meaning that a code reader is needed.

Thats strange, because it's a 4A-FE engine. I've tried with an cheap code reader, but that only showed: NO CONNECTION.

Is your car similar to this post? http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/151277-where-can-i-find-the-ignition-control-module/

Some 4A-FE variants had a different ignition system.

If you check the forum, you could find the code reader that works with your car.
