Passenger Door Interior Light Switch

Recommended Posts

Is it an easy job to wire up passenger door to an interior light switch?

I had a look today and see there is a blanking seal, but when removed, no sign of any pre-wiring. I see that the switches are available from ebay, but what about the wiring?

I would like to be able to get this done as it is really annoying not having a switch on the passenger door.

Anyone done this?

Its a really easy job to do however I recommend an original switch as the cheap ones I bought from eBay where useless, With the correct switch it earths through the mounting bolt with no need to run an additional earth wire.

The easiest and most basic way to add the wire is to run it across the car under the front seats and connect to the drivers side switch harness, the only issue with this is if you have your lights on and the passenger is opened the light on warning will sound.

There are a few guides on the forum some including resistors in the additional wire to stop the lights on warning from sounding.

we have a 5 door and made some wiring up for the interior light (changed to an led) as we need to see what we are doing in the back when we have the baby with us i also put a light delay unit in at the same time it keeps the light on for about 10 seconds which is long enough to see what your doing,as for the wiring i removed the rear seat base and put the wiring under the edge of the carpet it only takes a minute to remove the seat base.

Would it be ok to link the passenger front door wiring in with the rear door wiring to the front drivers side all at once. Peter

yes that would be fine thats the way we have done it as long as you have 1 wire going from door to door thats all you need.

the switches i have used are these off eBay and they fit perfectly

if you buy these switches they use 2 wires as the body of the switch is plastic so you need to put the wire from the front door to one terminal and the other terminal is wired straight to the body

for the rear switches and you will need 4 female spade terminals
