You know having some time off work and just pootling about my displayed mpg has increased from 55 to 69. Oh and its a bit warmer I spose. My contention no driver stress equals more mpg!

Generally yes.

And the warmer weather makes a big difference. The engine will cut off after half a mile in warmer weather. In the cold, the engine will run for much longer warming the cabin.

Always time to check the ol' tyre pressures when the weather changes (from cold to warmer or warmer to cold).

I'm a bit old fashioned. I check air oil and do a visual check of everything else weekly. I have a footpump and pencil type guage. My dad taught me to do that back in the seventies.

Wow, how do you manage that?!? Any special driving tricks?

I've only had mine for about 700 miles, and do have the larger wheels (which I suspect you do as well with a T spirit), but the best I've managed is about 54mpg with no air-con. 69mpg is getting dangerously close to the published figures!

Not especially. Just quite de stressed at the moment, a light foot, anticipation and the 'conservation of linear momentum'. I'm at 28,000 miles so it's deffo run in and I do have the aircon on. Plus thats on Asda's cheapo supermarket unleaded. I understand you can get more on better fuel but it's a cost reward thing isn't it.

Going flying my RC plane (WOT Trainer) this afternoon and will be packing that into my Yaris shortly. Cheers.

Any special tricks? Nah, just steady as she goes. I can regularly get 65+ mpg in dry weather and 75 mpg on a steady run. Generally anything upto 65 mpg should be achievable on a dry road taking it steady.

Your car is still brand new and many owners have found that it takes until at least 5,000 miles before you get the best out of the car. Also, double check your tyre pressures. That's one of the biggest things for getting the best out of any car, but especially a hybrid.

But another point is try to let the car do the work. It is so tempting to encourage the car to remain on electric (not just by using EV mode), but that can be counter productive; once the Battery runs down, even a little, the car has to run the engine a little bit harder to charge it back up again. It's a petrol car with electric assistance, not an electric car. Once you drive normally and steadily you'll get some good mpg figures. Just let the car work out what mix of electric and petrol it wants - it's very good at it.
