hi, Ive logged in and typed startx (but the gui wont load)

I only need to use GCC

how do I access files on the 2nd hardrive (eg d:\game\file.c++)

please make you instructions really basic as I was born on Microsoft

SuSE Linux 7.2 running on a virtual PC on Windows 2003 Server (256MB RAM(can go upto 1.7GB RAM))

red hat's pretty cool. install etc is all nice and flawless. u can't really go wrong with it.

You need to mount the windows drive from the Shell, then. You will need to

make an educated guess at the drive id and the partition number.

If the drive is the second disk on the primary controller, it will be hdb. If the

disk is the first drive on the second controller then it will be hdc. And if the

disk is the second drive on the second controller it will be hdd.

The first partition number if 1, then 2 etc.

Login as root. You can try mounting drives and see which one works. So to

try windows on the first partition on the second drive on the primary controller

you can type

mount /dev/hdb1 /mnt

If this has worked, your windows drive will be under /mnt in the filesystem.

Otherwise try the rest of the partitions, hdb2, hdc1, hdc2, hdd1, hdd2 etc.

Sometimes if the partition is in an extended partition you might need partition

number 5, eg. hdb5, hdc5 or hdd5.

When you reboot your machine it will unmount the drive automatically so you will

have to remount when you next login if you still need it.
