Door Leak

Drivers footwell carpet has a damp patch after the rain. No traces of water running over the sill. Where are the common areas to look?

water leaks that appear in the front of the car if they aren't coming over the door seal normally come from the back end of the car,

water will leak in and then run forward

the places you can check are :-

1) rear lights

2) air vents in boot behind bumper

3) high level brake light / crack by water jet

4) bump stops for tailgate glass

5) boot seal

remove carpets from the boot and get someone to spray water from a hose and soak the rear end

and from inside if you can look for any obvious leaks.

how old is your car if it is less than 5yrs old then go back to toyota as the guarantee has been extended to 5 years for water ingress from 3 years

Got what you are talking about, I assume you mean the high level brake light.

Mine does have a crack across the jet. I resealed this with silicone and it appears to be still leaking sourced a new one from a 2012 scrapper.

Five fixes from Toyota for front door issues:

New modified profile & thicker door seal 62311-0H014 x 2 ( 5dr Fr ) 62331-0H014 x 2 ( 5dr Re ) 62311-0H024 x 2 ( 3dr )

Fixed Oct 2009 on however door seals are 1 x fit only if removed new seals must be fitted as the bonding in the seal will leak if refitted

Additional gutter seal runs along upper inside edge of doors 62381-70020 x 2 ( 5dr ) 62381-70010 x 2 ( 3dr ) carries water away from doors to front/rear

These are only fitted if a water leak repair is needed on door seals, not a factory repair

Drain tapes 67270-0H010 2 on each FR door 1 on each Rear door, wick water away from seals preventing standing water

As posted above water ingress to the boot can move forwards into the rear & front footwells

If you car is less than 5 years old take it to Toyota as there is a warranty extension for some water ingress issues.
