I have debugged other Toyota ABS systems... and frankly this does not appear simple. It appears the ABS system finds a fault when braking only.. which could be anything from a failed sensor, failed yaw sensor corrosion etc...The easiest way to find out is to read the ABS fault codes.. Which usually means a fault code reader which covers ABS as well as engine - (Normal cheap engine fault code readers are not relevant). So a Toyota dealer or buy a reader.See http://tinyurl.com/pxdeljx

The layout is like this for the ABS circuits..http://tinyurl.com/omgfg5q

Likely faults: corroded reluctor rings, cracked ditto, wiring faults, wheel bearing faulty giving unequal readings when braking, etc.

I would check all wheel bearing first.. And then inspect the reluctor rings.. where possible.

After that, a fault code reading which probably means a Toyota garage or an independent with Toyota diagnostics.. It could be a corroded wire under stress which moves under breaking and interrupts the circuit...You need a multimeter to test the circuit runs

But I stress I am no expert (my faults were sensors - broken wiring)

Usually a hardware problem such as a damaged sensor will permanently illuminate the lamp. It's probably not worth buying an ABS code reader - but most garages will be able to read retained codes for a small charge.

Hi all i'm back again after having the codes read, which read.C1223 Fault in ABS control system, and C1267 Pedal force/loadsensor switch fault.allso my local garage carn't fix it,so can any of you lads help me out at all with the codes and what they mean, thanks. gjh.

C1267 Is the main code C1223 is set when a fault is detected in the ABS so it will always come on with another code.

C1267 Is related to a fault within the load/pressure sensor in the brake pedal assembly ( DO NOT remove the switch from the pedal as it is under a pre set tension, removing it will result in a dead switch, if a new switch is required a new complete pedal assembly is required.)

The diagnosis requires resistance checks across the switch if these are out then fit a new pedal assembly, if OK then :

Check resistances across wiring harness between the switch a ABS/VSC control unit if out then repair/replace harness, if OK then:

Replace ABS/VSC Actuator assembly.

This diagnosis will need either a Toyota dealer or an auto electrician with access to to Toyota's diagnostic instructions.

Hi devon,it was exactly as you said.the pressure switch in the brake pedal assembly, they are going to fit a complete unit. Not cheap by any means,£530.65,all in, they say it's a four hour job,why would any one design abrake pedal that dos'ent have a switch that can't be changed. So guys you all know what it costs for a plastic switch and brake pedal, thanks to you lads for answering my posts and have a nice evening.gjh.
