Verrrrrrrrrrrry Slow Window Motors

Only had the Rav for a week and starting to find out what its all about.

The windows are slow to go down but really verrrrrrrrrrrry slow to come back up. The front ones are barely moving they are so slow.

Is this a common issue and will a squirt on WD40 do any good?

Try some silicon spray in the door window channels.

Will do. I dont think that the glass is dragging on the window channels though. The motors just seem to be very slow.

Clean the window motors

Are we talking about the same thing here? I was thinking of squirting WD40 into the motors. Sorry, should have made that clearer in my original post.

I have some IPA if you think that would be better.

Clean the gearing and check the wiring before squirting it with WD40

Remove the door panel and unbolt the motor from the regulator (the mechanical linkage that lifts the glass). Check that the window closes easily by hand and then falls back open under it's own weight. If necessary, clean and lubricate the pivots on the regulator. The motors can be stripped with care. Usual problem with age is that the commutator is gunged up. Clean up the parts, grease the bearings and ensure that the brush holders are tensioned adequately - they can be bent slightly with a long nose pliers.

Now we're talking.

That's a better solution than just squirting with WD and what I'd do if I have the time. I might give them a squirt tomorrow and a proper clean and refurb when I can afford the time to do all 4.

Tomorrow will be oil and filter change. The stuff that is in there now is black and sticky.
