Ok....

I got another pc at the weekend and trying to network the buggers together.

I got a network card in my old pc and one built in with the new one.

I ran the network wizards etc and everything seemed to work fine. I could see files on each computer from the other one etc.

When I then tried to access the internet on the main pc, it connected but I couldn't do anthing. Email/Broswer wouldn't work. I didn't try it on the other pc as I thought it wouldn't work if it didn't even work on this one.

If u have Windows Xp on one machine and anything less than windows 2000 on the others u will have intermitent problems if not it will never network without someone knowing what they are doing. Windows 98 below has problems recognising windows XP on some computer setups. But try what they gave u.

both running winxp.

I basically just wanted to be able to see the files from one computer on the other. Not even really need ICS.

Just once the network was done and I could access files from each computer on each machine, the internet connection on the first computer would dial up etc... but it wouldn't display any web pages, or seem to actually work.

Run the network setup wizard on both machines. it's in ur contorl panel under network connections.

Then depending on the machine choose the appropriate method for it.

i.e (and this is off the top of my head) "this computer connects directly to the internet, and other computers conect thru it" this one will be for pc A (the one thats connected to the net), then on PC B choose the next option, it connects thru another computer.

Follow the wizrd thru, u shouldnt have 2 change owt, thats it m8. all sorted.

yip... I did do that and the network worked in the sense that I could see files from each computer on the other one.

Only thing is for some reason all internet functions wouldn't work again on the first ( main ) pc.

Bluddy weird. I had to do a system restore.

is it XP home or professonal because home does not support networking very well (one of the only diffrences between them)
