Tsport 2003 Brake Pedal

Very recently my brake pedal feels as though I'm pressing it a little more deeper although there is no issues with brake performance. I've checked all of the brake pads and all have plenty left. The Brake Fluid Reservoir is also near full.

Anyone know what might be causing this or experienced the same?

When was the brake fluid last changed?

Usually needs changing every 2 years

I've only had the car about a year and a half, will go though the service manual to see if/when it was done.

I intend to have it in the garage this weekend, if it is the brake fluid, but what is best one to use?

I think dot 4 is what is recommended, it does say it on the brake fluid cap and should be in the manual, so you would have to double check, reason for this is I have been using 5.1, so can't remember what is in there from the factory.

You will need to do a full change, as if it hasn't been done for a while then water can start to be absorbed into the brake fluid which could be giving you the brake pedal feeling like it's going down more than normal, so long as it's dot 4 or 5.1 you should be fine.

This is one of the cheaper things to do first. If this doesn't help then I would look for any bulges on the brake hoses when the pedal is depresses.

This is an interesting read regarding compatibility of different ratings. The manual actually states dot3.

Really strange, driving today the pedal seemed fine until around 20 minutes into the drive.

Driving home from work, again fine until almost reaching home.

A bleed will sort it. The fluid degrades over time and heat can play a factor. The fluid in and around the calipers will be susceptible to this. The clutch fluid in my mid-engined MR2 was like water when I recently bled it. Again, due to the heat.
