Wind Deflector - How To Fit Guide

Ok so I have bought some heko reflectors for a 3 door Auris

As pictured

They come in a very flat long box

Open up and they are very long

you will notice at the end of one of the packs there is a little pack of metal clips ( I didn't use these as the anti pinch hit them then rolled back down)

so first off lower the window you are doing then clean the entire of the window seal where the deflector goes ... I Used some window cleaner and a rag.

Then offer up the end that goes to the wing mirror and then remove sticky label cover .

Then push gently in till looks like the picture .

then get the end with heko written on it and remove sticky label and flex the whole deflector very gently and it should pop in and look like the picture .

You will then notice the centre is sticking out gently flex in the deflector being careful not to catch the very flexible rubber seal. I advise at this stage to start at the heko end and flex as this end is more pliable at this stage, do this all the way along until it is all seated.

Then gently push up on the deflector till it feels flush.

It should then look like pictured

Then just roll the window up it will bite but just take it up and down a few times once it goes up all the way it won't seem happy but then just give the deflector a bit of a flex towards yourself gently then just take the window up and down. And then repeat to do other window.

Also from the inside.

I fitted both of these in ten mins

Sorry the pictures are not in place but the app won't let me pit them in the right place but I'm sure you can get the idea of what I mean

I've got some in the post and was hoping to see what they look like on yours.

Looking good and a nice write up. What I did not quite understand is why you did not use the metal clips? It would be interesting to hear if small amounts of water drip on the inside of the window if you're spraying with pressure washer "under" the deflector or is it only me...

When I put the metal clips in the window kept catching them and because it has anti pinch it kept on rolling back down so took them out I have driven round in heavy rain today and jet washed under just to check and no drips as of yet .... If drips appear I may install them however no metal clips also means a tighter seal on the rubbers in the door frames ... But so far so good

Yeah mine make a small sound when window is approaching topmost position, possibly because of the metal clip contact. Now when they're settled nice and tight with double sided tape I might also remove mine to see what happens. Most probably it's dripping because of the clip, when looking at position of the clip and drip area it makes sense.

Well if the window is wet when you roll it up the water will defo drip in from the clip as the water channels for the windows will clear it but I have had nothing come in mine and you get a tight seal as you see the deflector move slightly when the window shuts on it at the top so you know it is pushing it into the seal

Just wondering if deflectors will hold while windows are open... The clips are included for a reason I believe!

Well I had my windows down at 70 "cough 95 cough" and they held fine. they pop in that tight they would hold easy also you have to remember the head lights and wing mirrors are designed to minimize air passing over the windows... But they held fine no vibration or flexing nothing ...

I was sceptical about not having clips but I drive round with the windows cracked open about 2 inches all the time and also you have to remember that the front portion that goes along the wing mirror edge stays pinned by the window apart from when the window is completely lowered but I have been driving round all day as the weather has cleared so been able to have windows down .

Also if you was worried u could put a couple of drops of glue in strategic places to hold it in also I haven't tried to remove mine as when tugging them to male sure they where flush there was no play and the clips only go where the glue is so really it's just a safety backup as such ...

Ok cheers for all the info :) Much more confident now! Will remove the clips tomorrow first thing and see what happens when washing the car next time. I do also have rear ones which are a bit different compared to fronts. But I allready replaced the original tape with 3M double sided for heavyweight items, so I think no glue needed in my case :D

I know this is an old tread but I just bout a set of these to fit to my Auris.

I have bag of clips but am Curious as to why the OP did not use them.

Surely if  these were fitted by a main dealer, then the dealer would use the clips.

Also, I can't imagine Toyota goin to all of the trouble to tool up to make the clips if they were not needed

The clips just apply extra pressure to hold the deflectors in place, but if they stay securely without them, since they already have adhesives, then it's not essential to fit them.

The clips do have downsides - They bite into the rubber weather stripping and can also stop the window going up fully; I experienced both of these problems when I used wind deflectors with clips in my Mk2. It always sounded like the window was slightly open because the clips prevented them from going fully up and sealing in the groove of the weather stripping. They also started to leave marks on the glass where the window was rubbing against them when it pushed into them.

Thank you very much for getting back to me on this, So if I wish to have a go at using the clips, Do I fix them to the deflector in the first instance and then locate them in the weather strip before removing the adhesive protection.

I hope this makes sense

There should be instructions, but with mine I peeled a bit of the adhesive strip off but left it attached, then slid the deflector up into the window channel and seated it until I was happy it was located correctly, then carefully pulled the rest of the adhesive strip out so it all stuck.

In hindsight I should have cleaned where it was going to stick to as I think that's why I had to use the clips.

Once you have the deflector in place, that's when you push the clips in (With a screwdriver or chopstick or something) so they're nice and snug and pressing against the wind deflector and rubber stripping at even intervals. (Well, if you have more than one; mine only came with 1 each for the front ones, so I did it slightly further back as the front end had an extra bit that came down and rested on the front-part of the window frame anyway.). They should splay out open enough that the window doesn't catch on them, but mine didn't, which is why they were rubbing against the glass. I guess they were cheap ones...!

I do actually have a set of instructions but they are just a block diagram type of thing that you would get with a cupboard from  Ikea

I did fit a set of these once and didn't use the clips because of what has already been written. e.g. possible issue with window not closing properly, impossible to remove, if necessary, without damaging window/door seal.

I did use extra thin double sided adhesive tape though and kept the windows fully closed for a couple of days to hopefully increase the effectiveness of the tape. They never fell out.

I’ve just ordered these for my 5 door Auris , but I’m having trouble fitting the front windows they just won’t fit , to me they are just to long if I put both ends in then try to force the rest into the channel I get so far then the rest just won’t flex , I’m sure they have sent me a 3 door version instead of a 5 door version of which I did order

Have you bought Genuine Toyota parts.

If so they are the same length as the doors, they are not difficult to fit, but fiddley to say the least and you need to use the clips to give them rigidity
