Hi was just wondering. For my 2001 sr yaris does high mileage matter? As in is it dangerous to buy one with high mileage. It has 160,000 but has full service history and had one done 1 month ago. And has just passed it's mot with just a change of 1 tyre.

Just sold my 99 reg yaris with 130,000 on the clock. It ran great. Think if its been maintained well it should be good for a couple of years yet. Will be worth it . . . at the right price . . . should be cheap . .

Son's Yaris has 132k miles.

It looks like it has - dents and bruises..: but runs OK...

I believe its better to buy a car that's got high mileage because its probably been on longer runs regularly so the engine is therefore in its healthiest state it can be in. I generally like to see cars for sale with 10k a year and above, unless they're brand new obviously.

It's not dangerous per se. There is a risk with any car that there is a nasty fault and that risk may rise with mileage, but a badly kept low mileage 'city' car could be worse than a high mileage 'country' car. So to a large extent I'd agree with Wiz. But it is a case of buyer beware and an inspection is strongly recommended, especially as most warranties won't cover cars at those sort of mileages.

My first Toyota nearly 30 years ago was a Carina II (the first one!). I had it 15 years and had to scrap it because of rust on the body round the rear suspension mounts (not economic to repair). It had done 247,000 miles, at least half on motorways, and the engine oil level had got to the point of dropping about 3/4 down the dipstick between services (6000m). I never needed to top it up.

A d4d Yaris at 90k miles needs new front springs due to the weight of the engine.
