Hi There

Tried to tighten up alternator belt but turned the wrong adjuster ..the one i turned was the one behind the alternator (easily got to with long bar and 14mm socket) i assume this one i have turned is the Compressor belt tensioner ...only problem now is the belt on the compressor is too tight. tried unwinding the bolt the other way a bit but its just turning and not slackening the belt.... basically how does one slacken the compressor belt ?? ..just worried about compressor bearings if left this way...

(i now know the alternator belt adjuster is in front by the rad..)

please help

and yes i know i am a twit..

The lock nut on the outboard face of the idler pulley needs to be undone. 14mm nut attached to the cover plate. Then the adjuster bolt will slacken off.

If I remember correctly it's a bit tight for access and you need a combination spanner or offset ring spanner to reach the lock nut plate.

Hi Merv,

Gary is correct. The good thing with this system is that they can be adjusted individually.

If you don't have the specs, the deflection for the air conditioning compressor is 8.5 to 9.5 mm, and the alternator/coolant pump is 11.5 to 13.5 mm. Both on the longest run.

Konrad.
