I have a problem with my 1995 Camry. When the car is put into reverse, and starts moving in reverse, the backup lights do not function. I have checked all of the fuses I could (including those in the driver and passenger-side kick boxes) and even tried to replace the bulbs. However, neither of these things have resulted in anything. Is there anything else that I should try or that I could easily fix before I bring it to a mechanic?

More than likely it is the neutral safety switch mounted on the trans. The Haynes manual gives a good check of this switch.

Without having a manual, is there any way that I could find out where the switch is? I'm on a tight budget (I'm only 16), and I'd like to fix the problem with as little money spent as possible. Thanks.

The switch is located on the transaxle.Just look for the shifter cable where it goes into the tranny.that is the switch.Perhaps you could remove the switch and have it tested at a shop or dealer.

I have similar problems on both my 1988 & 2000 Camrys.

Mine was due to "broken wires" at the hinge of the trunk lid (driver side) that got damaged after years of opening/closing of the trunk. Undo the tape holding the bunch of wires (all go to the lights at the trunk lid) and you should be able to locate the damaged wire.

Hope this helps!

Well, it has to go to the dealer for a recall, so I'm just having them fix it. Thanks for the advice.
