A Bang And Smoke When Turning Ignition Key.2001 Verso

Went to start the petrol Verso earlier and the moment I turned the key there was a loud bang (sounded like someone had lobbed a brick on the roof)followed by smoke coming from the front RHS of the car which soon cleared.

Engine didn't fire up.

Disconnected the Battery and gave it a quick look over but can't see or smell what went pop.

It will now start but immeidiately cuts out.

Can anyone give me an idea what could have gone pop?

Inlet manifold exploded,the smoke smelt a lot like an electrical fire it turns out the manifold is plastic and smelt similar.

This is going to cost or more likely be scrap.
