Sat-Nav Volume

Following the Touch and Go Sat-Nav this morning and it keeps trying to talk over the top of the radio without muting or reducing the volume, resulting in a garbled jumble of words that nobody can understand.

The old system would mute out one of the radio Speakers and the sat nav instructions could be heard.

How do I set the new one to do the same? I know you can turn the volume up on the voice guidence but still that isnt really a solution.

Which old system? Pretty sure that my TNS700 didn't - the radio usually was set louder than I could ever get the sat nav instructions so you could miss them.

I'm finding that whilst T&G+ has a prettier presentation that in many ways I preferred the way that the TNS700 UI/system worked.

Can't remember which model it was, on the 2008 TR it used to mute the left hand door speaker, on the 2009 TR it muted the drivers door speaker, and seemed to mute the radio. I never missed an instruction and the radio always went quieter when the sat nav was speaking.

Just checked, it was a TNS700-B9010 in my old car. It faded out the radio on one of the Speakers so you could actually hear the sat nav lady speaking.

I guess Toyota felt this wasn't important so left that function out of the new system.

Do you reckon the old TNS700-B9010 could be fitted to a 2012 model Avensis? Dash is basically the same as the 2009 model.

Same satnav that my old Avensis had & I don't remember it doing that. I certainly find it easier to hear T&G+ spoken instructions.

I suspect that a TNS700 would fit but you would lose your reversing camera screen.

You must have had a different system then. Definitly easier to hear the instructions in the older car.

2009 T4 and T-Spirit with that (or very similar) sat nav system had reversing camera as standard so I don' think you would lose the camera.

Seems to me that it is faulty take it back to the dealer and get it sorted under warranty.

It was a TNS700 (also known as B9010) in a T25 TR registered March 2008.

It didn't have a reversing camera & also iirc various people had tried to get theirs to play video on the screen but failed (I may be wrong on the last as it's 18 months since I had that car).

I don't remember it muting or reducing the volume for traffic instructions - indeed I do definitely recall not being able to get them loud enough to be heard over the radio which kind of implies that it didn't...

However, I don't have that problem on this model where T&G+ allows me to increase the volume louder than my normal radio/CD/MP3 playing level.

I have TR registered late 2008 with tns700 and a second before any sat nav instructions are given whatever is playing is muted slightly and the voice is sent to the left speaker. works flawlessly imo.

  • 1 year later...

I've just bought a 2015 avensis fitted with touch and go 2. I can't seem to adjust the satnav volume without going to settings. The previous touch and go had a vol control on the map screen which was quick and easy to adjust when driving.
