Oil Filter Location On 2009 2.2 D4D

Hi Guys,

I'm sure I must be being stupid, but with all the undertrays and wheelarch liners I can't seem to find the oil filter canister on my 2009 (T270/new shape) Tourer. I only have the car up on axle stands so there isn't that much space, which doesn't help. I've unclipped the plastic flap on the undertray that gives access to the sump drain plug, but so sign of a filter.

Do I need to remove the entire undertray? If I knew where it was that'd be a start :-) Oh for a workshop manual!

Cheers

Gary

I know this is the old shape but it may help.

Cheers - on that basis looks like I need to remove the whole undertray - I'll try to get a torch in a crack down there to confirm the location, but they can't have changed the block design that much so I doubt it can have been radically relocated. Actually looking at the video perhaps there's access through the offside wheel arch.

Confirmed - the filter housing is in exactly the same place. For the sake of the archives: On the T270 model the undertray has a designed in crease very near the front so that on a ramp this would be a very easy change. It'd be a case of removing around 8 plastic clips, hinging it down, and then you'd have good easy access to the filter and sump plug.

If you've only got the car a couple of feet off the ground then you need to remove the entire tray: A further four clips and five hex head bolts. The front part of the tray is sandwiched between various other plastics fitted to the front of the car so refitting is a pain.

The oil/filter change was very easy in my case. Based on what I've read in the archives this is down to luck in that the last person to do it didn't over tighten the filter housing.

Oil/Filter change time - 15 minutes. Jacking, faffing getting the tray off and then back on again : 45 minutes.
