Which Engine Oil?

Hi,

My Yaris is due for a service this time next month, so i am getting my parts together as usual beforehand. I previously used Castrol Edge oil before, but people are raving about Mobil 1, so i thought i would give it a try.

I bought the Mobil 1 ESP Formula, but am doubting whether this is the correct version. I know it is the correct formula (5W-30), but the Mobil website is recommending me the Mobil 1 New Life 0W-40.

My car is a Yaris 2002 1.0 and i have always used SAE 5W-30, even though my Haynes manual states 10W-30 can be used.

Any thoughts? I could easily return the oil to Halfords for a different version. But i most definitly want to give Mobil a go.

Thanks,

All Toyotas should have this info on the oil cap.

Do not get your advice from oil company websites (especially regarding synthetic) as their goals primarily involve making money.

Personally, I use synthetic, but it really won't benefit you that much unless you race your car or go more than 6,000 miles between oil changes.

Hi,

Yes i had a look at that topic, but i want to find out specifically if the ESP Forumla (Emission System Protection) is the correct one, or should i take it back and get something else.

They have a few 5W-30 Mobil oils such as the ESP, Super 3000, New Life etc. With Castrol you have the GTX, Magnatec and Edge, which go from cheap to expensive in relevance to its quality. I'm finding it hard to understand this with the selection of Mobil's oils though.

Thanks,

From the Mobil Oils UK website, either Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 (API SM/SN), or Mobil Super 3000 XE 5W-30 (API SL/SM) should be fine.

Some of the Mobil oils are variations on a theme formulated for particular manufacturers.
