Hi,

A little help please in identifying my correct towing capacity.

We have a 14 plate Avensis Tourer 2 litre Diesel wit a 1AD engine.

The plate and the book don't correspond. What do you think?

Engine number 1 AD

Plate inside passenger door,

The brochure information supports the handbook - 1600kg towing capacity with brake. As regards the plate, the 2130kg is the gross vehicle weight and the 3730kg is the gross vehicle weight plus towing capacity (braked).

What do the figures at 1. and 2. refer to?

I was told by my dealer that on my old Verso they refered to the kerb weight and the towing capacity but none of that really tallies up. The info that you posted above all adds up properly. Train weight minus vehicle weight = 1600kgs

The kerb weight of the Avensis Tourer with the 1AD engine is between 1510 and 1635kg - so figures 1 and 2 don't relate to the kerb weight.

Think figures 1 and 2 could refer to the 'maximum permissable axle capacity'. Number 1 - front axle, and 2 - rear axle.

Good call. I think I'll have to go back to Mr T and ask a technician and not a sales dude.

Thanks.

The figures at 1 and 2 are the maximum permitted weights for the two axles. This is a requirement for all estate cars but not saloons. It is possible to be within the maximum permitted weight of the vehicle but exceed the maximum permitted weight for the axel if the load is not spread evenly. The police and VOSA do have the power to direct you to a weigh bridge if they think you have overloaded the vehicle in any way.

Your owners manual should confirm these details - under vehicle specifications, maintenance data, dimensions and weight.

As others have said, it is 1600kg both in the book and on the plate, coudn't be any clearer really.

2130kg is the gross laden weight of the car.

3730kg is the gross train weight.

3730 minus 2130 = 1600.

1215kg is the maximum weight on the front wheels.

1135kg is the maximum weight on the rear wheels
