Dash Reflections......

After 10 days with the new Yaris all is well but had I known about the reflection on the screen from the dash top I don't think I'd have done the deal. To be fair, most of the time I don't notice, but, and it's a big but, drive due east at 8.00 - 8.30am or due west 5.30 - 6.00pm in sunny conditions and the problem is serious. It's like the screen is well filthy..............and as for cleaning the dash top, that rippled plastic is a bugger to sort.

What I need is some sort of application to make the finish somewhat more matt, so as to reduce the reflections.

Anyone else noticed a problem / sorted it?

You could try something like ArmorAll which you can get in a matt finish.

ArmorAll matt works just fine.

You can get it in either a spray or wipes.

Interesting; I found this to be a problem with the Aygo too. Was especially bad because of the pattern on it, really hurt visibility when the sun was at certain angles.

I ended up laying a black dishtowel over it!

I had this with my Jazz but can honestly say I got so used to it I never really noticed it after a while.

Haven't seen it on the Yaris but I probably will now!.......

Me too! I wish Berisford hadn't posted about it. I can't say I've noticed any reflections in the windscreen, day or night but I'll now be looking for any.

Well in the Aygo, it was really bad; Like having rain on the windscreen that you couldn't wipe off!

Luckily it was only at certain angles or really bright sunny days, but the black cloth worked well :)

I'm sure it can't be as bad in the Yaris as it is in the Aygo 'tho; The problem with the Aygo is the angle of the windscreen causes these reflections; In most cars they angle it so the reflection doesn't shine right into your face but they somehow missed this trick in the Aygo.

This never used to be a problem on the Mk1 and Mk2 because the dashtop was curved and very short and the windscreen angled the reflections away, but I can see how it might be worse in the Mk3 due to the depth of the dash and the angle and distance the windscreen is from you..

Well folks, it wasn't my intention to talk it up, it just happens that my regular east / west commute coincided this last week with sunny weather and the worst possible angle of the sun v Yaris dashtop.

Had a run out today up to Sheffield and not noticed the problem at all, despite it having been a nice sunny day.

Above and beyond, I've a suspicion that the valeting team at the dealership may have got a little carried away with the silicone polish on the very textured dashtop so my first priority is to try and remove it. I've ordered some stuff from Amazon that claims to be suitable, we'll see and I'll report back.
