Fabia Monti Carlo To Toyota Yaris

Hi everyone after shopping around the various dealers my better half still couldn't find a car she liked better than her Fabia, but due to a shoulder problem she needs really to have an automatic.Problem is the Fabia monti carlo dosen't come with an auto box.

So has a last resort a friend recommended us to try the yaris, according to him the yaris sips fuel, something the 1.2 tsi engine in the fabia doesn't do if you put your foot more than halfway down the throttle, but it will fly up the hills with its generous amount of torque.

Needless to say she took to driving the Yaris like a duck to water,as if she'd been driving it for years. Even better news was that they'd got an Icon + in stock ,nearly all the other marques were quoting 2 or 3 month lead times.

So its the ugly half of the relationship who is going to have to alter his driving style :driving:

A couple of questions ;

How do the yaris cope with hills ?? [is it really going to be a bit of a slug]

Fuel I know in the brochure it says regular unleaded but has anyone tried super unleaded & got better fuel consumption??

The use of super unleaded has been the subject of a fair bit of dicussion recently. Some people like it as their car seems to run smoother, and others don't like it as they have noticed no difference. Think any difference in consumption would be minimal. Best thing to do would be to try it and see what you think.

I have tended to use it when we're doing long journeys as I think my Auris does seem to run better. Otherwise it is standard BP or Shell FuelSave. Don't tend to use supermarket petrol as where we live there is negligible price difference between supermarket petrol and branded petrol.

I have used V Power Nitro from time to time in my Mk3 Yaris SR CVT i usually do 2 full tanks every 2-3 months , noticeable throttle response it feels a bit more sharper and i get a slightly more MPGs , but that could down to driving style / temp variance etc etc.

Doesn't harm putting Super in every now and then. Due to the additives in the V Power Nitro , its worth it for the difference of £3 ish on a full tank on a Yaris

My Yaris doesn't seem to have problems with hills , just at times you need boot it past 3K rpm , or hit that Sports button if you have the auto like i do.

The super is probably wasted on the CVT unless you're really thrashing it  but won't do any harm either. I stick some V-Power in my Mk1 every now and then as a treat and to help clean out the injectors (Mine's a diesel tho' so that probably won't matter so much on yours!)

You didn't say what engine, but regardless the Yaris has no issues with hills. My diesel one destroys any hill you throw at it easily. The Petrol ones are all VVTi's which mean they can rev to the moon and back, so even the relatively gutless 1.0L can spin up nicely, esp. with that CVT gearbox, to tackle anything you throw at it. Could get a bit noisy if you're really pushing it tho'!

Enjoy the car! :) It's not really exciting but it is a joy to drive :D

Yup I'm pretty hard with mine at times , I'm talking about 5.5k to 6.2K rpm redline.

The CVT is only on the 1.33 though ... and yeah it does get noisy when past the 3K /3.5K mark.

Sounds like you made the right decision getting the SR!!

It's a shame they didn't put in a bigger engine or turbo'd it or something tho' :(

Yeah it just needs about 30-40 bhp , like the Suzuki Swift Sport then id be happy. At the moment im considering other cars ... got my mind on a few ... wont make a decision till prolly end of the year.

Im looking at Merc A Classes ... ticks all the boxes , but slightly beyond my budget , Audi S1 Sportsback ... been in one and again out of my budget , but wow it is dinky compared to my SR ... plus the dealer was quite rude when i wanted to get more information about it.

Fiesta ST .... can get a cracking deal ... but only 3 door version available in the UK, if they had the 5 door over here .... i would have gotten one already.

Doesn't have a the 5 door requirement that i need ;) Plus they are a tad on the expensive side now after they have upped the price of them , awaiting for the for face lifted version of them.
