Um, I would have it checked for leaks, I've had air con not working before in my yaris, it needed a regas for £49

Have you checked that the fan is on otherwise the ac will not work. Happened to me once and I immediately assumed that the ac was broken .

Hi thanks for the replies, fan within the car is definitely on.

All sorted, man connect his equipment to the valves to take a pressure reading, started the car, turned on the aircon and to our surprise it started working. Gas was on the low side and the ability to cool wasn't too great. Gas was topped up and all seems well ago. System was checked for leaks beforehand probably just an age thing. Cool again now.

not too bad could have done without it, however getting out the car dripping wet is a no no for me. £30 all in.

Yes and the bloke came to me with all his equipment in the back of his estate. Just needed to use one of my house electrical sockets to power his equipment.
