Dear friends,

After i bought my Toyota Touring Sports Hybrid, and after make about 12000 Km.

When i drive the car with velocity over 80km/h, the rear window, makes a wind noise such as it open.

The noise is very anoying beacuse it seems that the window it´s open.

Does anyone have the same problem?

Or if anyone have this problem can solve?

If i put something, covering the corner of window the noise stops.

Thank for the reply´s.

It sounds as though you've identified where the noise is coming from. So if I were you, I'd be approaching your Toyota dealer, get a technician to ride in the car with you, without anything covering the corner and then with something covering the corner, and see what they say about rectifying the problem under the (as you're outside the UK) three year new car warranty.

Remove your roof aerial and go for a drive and see if that makes a difference

Thank you for your reply´s.

I will check with my Toyota Dealer, because i will going to make the check up of 15.000Km, and the car have got 6 months. So if have any problem i think that will be cover by the warranty.

Alex, i thougt that maybe could be from the roof aerial, but if i cover the black angle of the back window, the noise of the wind disappear.

That is why i ask where at the forum if someone have or had the same problem.

Hi

I have the touring hybrid sports and have exactly the same problem with wind noise from the rear window / door area at speeds over 40 mph.

I did take it back to the dealer who had the car for two days and have replaced the door seal and the windows runners, but this has not solved the problem. The technician that came with me on the test drive also heard the noise and the area the noise is coming from sounds similar to you.

I have a colleague at work who has the same car so I took his out a few days ago and this is the same, same noise from same area. I have put it down to a trait of the car but this does not make it less annoying though. I can hear it even with the radio on and if it's a relative breezy day it's worse. I was going to take mine back to the dealer again but as they had it two days and failed to fix the issue I don't know if it's worth doing.

Out of interest which side of the car can you hear it as mine only seems to be the passenger side in the UK? I was thinking it may be something to do with the petrol cap as this is the only thing that differs from the drivers side that does not seen to suffer from the issue.

Dear Saints,

Thank you very much for the reply.

This is the problem i take my car to the dealer, and he says that is normal because is the wind that passes throught the car.

I ask if someone else, claims about this situation i he says no one. Ok i believe since the model of the car ir recent.

But they try to fix the problem, but they didn´t get any sucess.

I think that the only away that we can solve this is claim to TOYOYA, because if all the persons claims, with this problem they have to solve the problem with the persons that already bough the car, and have to be carefull with the new clients that would like to buy this car.

I think this is very easy to solve by TOYOTA, because they only need to isolate the window, with a good ruber or something that don´t make this sound.

In my case is the rear window, of the passanger.

But if you go to the other side you will see that the problem is the same, because when you are driving your left ear will ear this sound better.

But in my case i drive on the left side, so my rigtht ear, listening better in this side, but for example if you put your passenger seat all to the back, you will not listening so good.

Or if you put some cloth tapping the black spot in the window you will not ear.

I really think that i am going to make a complain to TOYOTA, and hope that other customers do the same and maybe in a year they will put a new piece to solve the problem.

Meanwhile the only solution that i see is you to put something to cover the window so that you can not listening the noise.

What tyres your car is equipped with?

I'm asking you this because I had a car equipped with some noisy tires and the inside noise was the same like yours, it sounded like an opened rear window.

The tyres are Michelin Energy on 15" alloy wheels, never given the tyres any thought.

Hmm, they must be pretty quiet, noise level is 70db...

In the EU tyre tests noise levels are measured from the outside of the vehicle - not the inside

Of course you don't hear from inside 70 db; living inside a small cabin at 70 db, after half an hour you can't even listen your thoughts ! :D

A difference in noise level can be perceived from inside as well.

My tires are DUNLOP 225/45R17.

But Tavey, for me are the back window bad design.

Because over 80km/h, you can ear quite sound of the wind, and if you put some cloth between windows and black ruber, the problem is solved.

This are details that when we bougth a car we don´t check everything.

I like very much all the things in the car, and my is a Hybrid. So the consumption, is very good, 4 l/100km inside city.

But the rear window very bad... :(

Then when you wash the car insist in that area with jet spray, in order to see if water ingress inside the car .

This is not such a big problem, Toyota people will change door rubber seal.

No water inside the car.

Because the problem is an air dinamic, that the wind don´t pass througth the car.

For me i think for the car that is, and especialy if you pay a Hybrid, friendly of the enviroment, and without engine noises.

I think that should be better finish.

I have the same issue and I belive its coming from the window seal.

When rear Windows are scrolled down about halfway they seem to jump out of place, skipping towards the centre of the car. I suspected this to be the issue, but it doesnt answer the noise when they are shut...

If anyone has a solution plz tell us 🙂

I have the same exact tires and car as yours but I have no noise if the windows are completely shut. What I suspect, you have defective weather stripping. It is not covered by Relax-warranty or any kind of warranty. The easiest way is to put a soft faom behind the rubber seals to keep the rubber expanded.  I had similar issues back then on non -Toyota cars too.
