Keeping A 57 2.0 D4D For A Few More Years.

Hi all.

I have decided to keep my 2007 2.0 d4d for a few more years. After much deliberation and faffing I cannot justify the £20+k to replace it for a Volvo v40 D3 auto.

I'd have another Auris tomorrow if Toyota would put a half decent Diesel engine in the new shape. I've tried the 1.4 d4d and for to its just too slow. I've also been loaned a hybrid but I found it just too much hard work to get decent economy out of it and I just plain don't like the Avensis.

Any way, what remedial work do I need to do to make the car run smoothly for the next few years?

Toyota replaced the gearbox and DMF last September at 59k the gearbox experienced a sudden mechanical fault and destroyed itself. At the se time I replaced the clutch. I have also dropped the oil changes to every 5k in the hope of prolonging the life of the turbo and timing chain and I've been running it on v power diesel for two or so years now. It also has a full Toyota history that I will maintain.

What other mechanical things should I do?

I want to upgrade the sound system so I can stream from a bluetooth device. What is the best way do this?

Although the car has a nice and simply odd specification (TR with leather, climate, jbl system and a few other options) it has no stability control or cruise control. Can the cruise control be retro fitted?

Thanks in advance.

Gh.

Hi Gareth, it sounds like you're doing all the right things maintenance-wise. I'd do your best to avoid lots of short runs from cold (especially in the winter) & give the turbo time to cool down after the motorway or a quick run across country. You may well be doing this already, but just a few thoughts .....

My 57' reg Auris is now on 61k mls & also has a full service history. So far all it's needed is tyres & brakes, long may that continue.

Thanks for your replays guys.

The cars now got 79k. Looks like I will put another 50k over the next few years.

Had been doing short rind for a few years die to the change I'm working circumstances and ran into two clogged egrs. Toyota suggested I started to use v power diesel and had no more issues until my miles crept up again.

At nearly 7 it's still feeling well screwed together. No squeeks or rattles.

Other than the gearbox etc it's had tyres, brakes, aircon recharge and the egr valves. Still, much more reliable than my last car.

I'll have a look into the cruise control so thanks for that.

Hi.

Just spoke to my dealer. Apparently cruise. I troll cannot be retro fitted to my auris.

It can on some and not on others I'm told.

Is there a way I can verify this?

Thanks,

Gh.
