I have a 2002 2.0L d4d avensis, there is a lack of power... i thought it was the turbo as there is a whistling noise when accelerating but the turbines are spinning and no smoke...could it be the intercooler...any other suggestions ?? i have also cleaned the egr and checked the air flow meter

It certainly sounds as though there's an air leak after the turbo. The whistling's going to be the turbo spooling up, but the boost pressure isn't being delivered to the engine for some reason. Any misfiring?

I'd certainly look at the intercooler. It could have a puncture from a stone chip or corrosion.

No theres no misfiring.... just seems to be dead under acceleration but ill check the pipes after the turbo and the intercooler and see if that sorts it

I had a similar issue with mine a short while back, it turned out to be the air pipe coming off the intercooler at the front of the engine, A quick fix with a long screwdriver and new jubilee clip !
