Gen6 Air Con

Hi All,

I'm unsure as to whether my air con is working.

The button lights are not flashing (therefore not broken according to manual), however, I seem to remeber the car being colder last summer.

I used it a few times through winter to defog the windscreen, so it has been used.

Today I drove with both windows down, and blower on full (no aircon) for about 20 mins to disperse any heat, then closed windows and used aircon for about 20 mins. It seemed 'cool', but not cold.

Is there anything user-serviceable I can check (compressor etc), or is it a dealer job for a check over?

Ta

Chris

MAYBE THE GAS IS LOW OR THE FILTER NEEDS REPLACING - WHO KNOWS WITH AIR CON - ONLY THE AIR CON PEOPLE - LOL

As stated in the above post, gas levels could be low, resulting in decreased efficiency of the system- hence not as cold. Not really sure if any of it is user serviceable though.

If the gas pressure gets too low then it won't work at all. There will be a pressure switch somewhere in the system that enables the compressor. This is easy to test though. Start the car (aircon OFF) and let the engine tick over. Activate the aircon button. The rev counter should drop by a couple of hundred RPM if the compressor engages. If it doesn't then either the gas pressure is too low OR the compressor is hoofed. If it does then you're probably just looking at a Regas/Top up. Anything from £30 to £100......shop around.

Compressor does come on, so hopefully just a top up.

Would you suggest an air-con shop, or Mr T?

MOST DEALERS USE AIR CON SHOPS , COS U NEED A LICENCE TO CARRY SUCH GASSES WHICH THEY DONT USUALLY HAVE . I USE A MOBILE FITTER , HE COMES TO UR HOME.
