I have seen (dozens of times) where a customer goes and buys a non genuine exhaust from Kwik Poo or the likes and comes in complaining there is something wrong with the car. These non genuine exhausts very often cause a terrible resonance and excess noise. Have you ever seen the inside of one? A handfull of rockwool is all that stops it from becoming a straight through system

Good news lads I think I have located the source of my troubles .... The rear passenger side wheel bearings /hub... Shame you have to replace the hub at like 65 pound -.- I'm just glad I've found the problem any advice for changing one of these ??

Thanks for all your help ! Top set of lads we have here

Yup, told you it was the bearings from day 1. Bearings always make that irritating loud sound after 40 mph. It would never of been the exhaust, if it was you would of heard it outside the vehicle too. Once you change the bearing hub, then the sound will go. When you open it up, the mechanic may show you, all the balls inside the hub will be broken, therefore needing changing. Bearings break when alot of weight is carried in the car or just general wear and tear but on a 07 plate i dont think that would be the case, most likely you carried lots of weight in the car. Good thing you discovered it quickly because the wheel will actually eventually fall off. One thing to look out for is the ABS light, it may light up when the mechanic is changing the wheel bearings since they start bashing on the bearing hub to take it out and it triggers the ABS, if it does come alight, tell the mechanic to check it out too, it may be not be safe.

Good luck!

So you lifted the car and spun the rear wheel to locate the sound? If you did that and the rear wheel drones, then you indeed found the problem.

But if the sound was found whilst driving with someone listening in the back, then do the method I said earlier. The reason I said this was because I thought it was the wheel bearing, but it was a tyre. The tyre internal structure can fail, making it sound like a wheel bearing. Passengers weight in the rear makes the sound louder. Change the offending corner with the spare and see if that makes a difference. Your description matches what happened with me. I swapped the hub in 20 minutes to find the noise still there!

Best to confirm before spending.

Thanks to everyone who has posted in this forum, it was indeed the rear passenger side wheel bearing that was causing the horrendous noise!!!, however after a 2 hour slog with a large hammer and chisel and plenty of heat, managed to force it out aha!. so yeah thanks to everyone for your support, i think now i will treat myself and purchase some new upgraded Speakers for the front two on the dash... any recommendations ? (links welcome)

Ps. I once again LOVE! driving my Aygo hahah! the spark is back!
